Situated at an altitude of 3,700 feet, Sombaria, a small village is full of vegetation of temperate type and is located remotely in the extreme Western Sikkim. The altitudinal variation provides birds species an ample environment to feed and migrate to different places within a short span of time. Both migrants and resident birds of different species are found abundantly here.
Located a few kilometers below Sombaria Bazaar is the famous paddy terrains fields of Daramdin The name Daramdin is derived from the local Lepcha language ‘Dalom’ meaning a place of rest or a flat land. The famous Lepcha folktale story of the stairway to heaven refers to his site and a similar structure to mark the importance of this folktale is being constructed at this site.
The recently built Sai Mandir (temple) in Daramdin is also a pilgrimage site for many visitors. The mandir has a large compound decorated with different varieties of flowers. There is a dedicated hindu priest and some volunteers to help the visitors in different ways.
